Sint Maarten or Saint Martin The last stop of our Caribbean cruise was Sint Maarten/ Saint Martin. The pronunciation changes, depending on which half of the island you are. Saint Martin – Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten oder Saint Martin Als letzte Station unserer Karibik-Kreuzfahrt legten wir auf Sint Maarten/ Saint Martin an. Die Aussprache ändert sich, je nachdem auf welcher Hälfte der Insel man sich befindet. Die eine Hälfte gehört schließlich zu Frankreich, während die andere niederländisch ist. Auf der niederländischen Seite sind die Steckdosen Amerikanisch, auf der Französischen Europäisch. Außerdem unterscheiden sich die Stromstärken und man kann, je nach Inselseite, mit Dollars oder Euros zahlen. St. Kitts und Nevis St. Kitts und Nevis ist ein Inselstaat mit 56.000 Einwohnern, hat eine Fläche von 269 km² und zählt zu den zwölf kleinsten Staaten der Welt. Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia Die Marigot-Bay Saint Lucia ist das einzige Land der Welt, das nach einer Frau (Lucia von Syrakus) benannt wurde. Die Karibik-Insel hat eine Fläche von 616 km² und beheimatet etwa 170.000 Einwohner, von denen 90 % afrikanische Wurzeln haben und zumeist durch Sklaverei auf die Insel gekommen sind. Erst im Jahr 1979 wurde das Eiland unabhängig und ein Mitglied der “Commonwealth of Nations”. Zu den Exportschlagern des Landes gehören Bananen, Mehl und Reis. Die gelben Früchte sind als Exportgut allerdings stark rückläufig und wurden vom Tourismus als Einnahmequelle abgelöst. Saint Lucia Die Marigot-Bay St. Lucia is the world´s only country named after a woman (Lucia of Syracuse). The Caribbean island has an area of 616 km² (238 mi²) and is home to about 170,000 inhabitants. Ninety percent have African roots and mostly came to the island through slavery. It was only in 1979 that the island became independent and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The island’s export hits include bananas, flour and rice. Barbados, my favorite At the highest point of the island The beach Barbados is a 430 km² (160 mi²) island with 280,000 inhabitants. Most of them have African roots and came to Barbados because of slavery. The island is made of limestone, so there are hardly any lakes, as the water seeps away. Barbados

Barbados, mein Favorit Am höchtsen Punkt der Insel Der Strand Barbados ist eine 430 km² große Insel mit rund 280.000 Einwohnern. Die meisten von ihnen haben afrikanische Wurzeln und durch Sklaverei ihren Weg nach Barbados gefunden. Entstanden ist die Insel aus Kalkstein. Da das Wasser schlichtweg versickert, gibt es auf der Insel kaum Seen. Das Land war bis zum Jahr 1966 unter englischer Herrschaft, seitdem wird der 30. November als Tag der Unabhängigkeit und Nationalfeiertag gefeiert. Die wohl berühmtesten Persönlichkeiten, die das Land hervorgebracht hat, sind die beiden RnB-Musiker “Grandmaster Flash” und “Rihanna”. US Virgin Islands: Saint Thomas

Saint Thomas via cruise During our time in Ponce, we examined a cheap way to visit more islands of the magnificent Caribbean. After we checked flights, connections by sea and hotels, we booked a cruise as the cheapest and easiest solution. This way, we could visit five different islands within one week, had all meals included and a small, air-conditioned room every night. In general, the whole thing was extremely classy compared to the months in Ecuador and Puerto Rico. So to speak: I initially had to get used to the warm shower. Amerikanische Jungferninseln: Saint Thomas

Saint Thomas via Kreuzfahrt Während unserer Zeit in Ponce suchten wir nach einer günstigen Möglichkeit um weitere Inseln der grandiosen Karibik zu besuchen. Nachdem wir uns über Flüge, Verbindungen auf dem Seeweg und Hotels informiert hatten, buchten wir, als billigste und einfachste Lösung, eine Kreuzfahrt. Dadurch konnten wir innerhalb einer Woche fünf verschiedene Inseln sehen, hatten alle Mahlzeiten inklusive und jede Nacht eine kleine, klimatisierte Kabine. Im Allgemeinen war das Ganze äußerst nobel, verglichen mit den Monaten in Ecuador und Puerto Rico. Ich musste mich sozusagen erst an die warme Dusche gewöhnen.
