Hunedoara – a castle from a fairy tale After an hour’s drive, we reached our last planned destination on our tour through Romania: Hunedoara. The German name “Eisenmarkt” (roughly: steel market) derives from the fact, that Romania´s second largest iron works were located in the 60.000 people industrial city. As we drove through town, we could not find any particularities at first glance and therefore only visited the landmark: Castelul Corvinilor (Hunedoara Castle). Rumänien: Hunedoara

Hunedoara – eine Burg wie aus einem Märchen Von Sibiu aus erreichten wir nach einer Stunde Fahrt unsere letzte geplante Station auf der Rumänienrundfahrt: Hunedoara (Eisenmarkt) mit seinen etwa 60.000 Einwohner. Der deutsche Name Eisenmarkt (manchmal auch Eisenstadt) rügt daher, dass hier die zweitgrößte Eisenhütte Rumäniens angesiedelt war. Wir sind zwar durch die Stadt gefahren, konnten aber keinerlei Besonderheiten entdecken und beschränkten uns dadurch auf die Besichtigung des Wahrzeichens: Castelul Corvinilor (Burg Hunedoara). Diese wurde im 14. bis 15. Jahrhundert erbaut und hat eine schöne Lage auf einem Felsen. Am Fuß der Burg läuft außerdem ein kleiner Bach, der das Ganze noch malerischer macht. Rumänien: Bran – Transfagarasan – Sibiu

Schloss Bran… Von Brasov aus fuhren wir etwa 45 Minuten bis zum Schloss Bran. Den Touristen wird dieses Bauwerk als das Schloss Draculas verkauft. Richtig ist allerdings, dass Vlad Tepes die alten Gemäuer nie betreten hat. Einzig die Beschreibung von Bram Stoker in seinem Roman “Dracula” passt auf das Aussehen der Burg. Das richtige Zuhause Draculas soll die Burg Poenari (angeblich!) sein. Castle Bran… We drove about 45 minutes from Brasov to Castle Bran. The building is advertised as Dracula’s castle to tourists. The truth is, however, that Vlad Tepes never set foot in the old walls. Only a description of Bram Stoker in his novel “Dracula” fits its appearance, while the real home of Dracula is the castle of Poenari (allegedly!). Romania: Sighișoara – Cetatea Rupea – Brașov

Sighișoara – Draculas flair After arriving in Sighișoara in the evening, we put our luggage in our room and went on a discovery tour. The small city has almost 30,000 inhabitants and the city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strolling through the narrow, paved streets is definitely enough to fall in love with the city. Especially at dusk, the town gives away a flair of Dracula and can creep you out easily. It is said that Vlad Tepes (actually Vlad III Draculea) was born in this city. Rumänien: Sighișoara – Cetatea Rupea – Brașov

Schäßburg – Ein Flair von Dracula Nachdem wir abends in Sighișoara (Schässburg) angekommen waren, bezogen wir unser Zimmer und gingen auf Entdeckungstour. Die Stadt hat knapp 30000 Einwohner und beherbergt eine Innenstadt, die zum Unesco-Weltkulturerbe gehört. Allein durch die engen, gepflasterten Gassen zu schlendern reicht schon aus, um sich in die Stadt zu verlieben. Vor allem in der Abenddämmerung liegt ein Flair von Dracula über der Stadt und es kann einen leicht gruseln. Angeblich soll Vlad Tepes (eigentlich Vlad III. Draculea;), so der bürgerliche Name Draculas, in dieser Stadt geboren sein. Rumänien: Cluj Napoca – Salina Turda

Ein Tag in Cluj-Napoca, im botanischen Garten und der Salina Turda Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis der Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten in Rumänien war äußerst gut. Wir schliefen teilweisen in kleinen Appartements für unter 25 Euro pro Nacht. Wir starteten unseren zweiten Tag mit einem leckeren Frühstück in der Nähe der Michaelskirche in Cluj Napoca. Nachdem wir am Vorabend schon die berühmtesten Bauwerke der Stadt besucht hatten, entschieden wir uns eine entspannte und beliebte Touristenattraktion zu erkunden: den Alexandru Borza Garten – einen riesigen botanischen Garten. The reason for our journey I am born in Romania but moved to Germany when I was four years old. The annual visits to my grandmother gave me a rough insight to the lifestyle, but otherwise, I didn’t know much about the region. Rumänien: Arad – Scarisoara Höhle

Der Hintergrund unserer Reise Ich bin in Rumänien geboren und habe dort gelebt, bis ich vier Jahre alt war. Die jährlichen Besuche bei meiner Großmutter gaben mir zwar einen groben Einblick in das Leben, ansonsten wusste ich aber kaum etwas über mein Geburtsland. Da ich das ändern wollte, sind meine Freundin Theresa und ich ein paar Tage durch das Land am Schwarzen Meer gefahren. Ende Juli 2016 haben wir uns auf den Weg gemacht und sind in einem Rutsch die 1100 km von Deutschland bis Arad (Die Stadt der Märtyrer) gefahren.
